Career Decisions

Taking Action

As soon as you have made some decisions about a preferred career direction, you can start implementing your plan and making things happen.

REMEMBER:

Your career success will be improved when you:

  1. Know who you are and what you want
  2. Correctly identify and explore your options
  3. Make plans and set some S.M.A.R.T. goals
  4. Take action to reach those goals

We have provided some guidelines for the first 3 stages...TAKING ACTION IS UP TO YOU!

Use your goals that you have written down to remind you of the actions you need to take TODAY to keep you on track towards making your dreams a reality.

If you experience some problems when you start taking action, remember that they are a normal part of life!! Successful people know this and persevere to achieve their goals.

If you get really stuck, you may need to go back to Stages 1, 2 & 3 to re-think things. Don't be afraid to ask for some help or seek some professional vocational guidance, such as that included in Jarrah's Infront Career Development System.

If you are still in doubt about a career direction, you should seek to broaden your education and experience as much as possible in order to keep your options open. Think about the transferable skills and knowledge that would make you valuable to a wide range of potential employers. For example, good skills in research, report writing, relating with people, critical thinking, spoken communication and customer service.
