Career Decisions

Self Assessment

You must begin by looking "inside" yourself and asking questions such as:

  • What are my real interests?
  • What types of things am I good at?
  • What things are important to me?
  • What type of study and work would I truly enjoy?
  • What undiscovered potential might I have?
  • What are my particular "gifts" and what areas do I need to further develop?
  • What are my specific personality characteristics?
  • What is my preferred style of thinking and behaving?

Self assessment takes into account your:

  • INTERESTS - the things that you like to do
  • APTITUDES - the things you can potentially do well
  • VALUES - the things that are most important to you
  • PERSONALITY - the unique characteristics you have

How do you measure these?

Psychometric testing allows you to measure these values for career success. GenEd is a psychometric vocational guidance tool, which will take you through a step by step process of choosing the career that is right for you.

Your school or educational institution may have the software, however, if they don't they may want to consider purchasing it or alternatively, you may like to come in and have a chat with one of the Jarrah HR career consultants who can provide you with the GenEd software and also a detailed report outlining possible career paths for the future.

You may also have or have had access to JIG-Cal and this will be a good starting point for you, but is unlikely to provide you with all the information that you require to make career decisions.
